The City of Roswell, GA, located on the northern banks of the Chattahoochee River in Fulton County, is only about 20 minutes north of downtown Atlanta. It was founded by Roswell King who came here from St. Simons Island, GA in 1836 to establish the Roswell Manufacturing Company to make textiles. The Cherokee Indians once called this area "Enchanted Land."
President Theodore Roosevelt's family tree branches back to Roswell. In fact, his mother was the daughter of one of Roswell's first families. Her son Elliot was the father of Eleanor Roosevelt who married President Franklin D. Roosevelt, a distant cousin.
Today, Roswell is Georgia's 6th largest city, with a population of approximately 85,000, nearly double its 1990 population.
